Crawlspaces & dirt floors

Unfinished crawlspaces and dirt floor basements (non-encapsulated) can allow excessive moisture and gasses to seep into the air precipitating dampness, unpleasant smells, mold, cause structural damage, and even pose health risks. In most cases these unpleasant results can be eliminated with the installation of an impenetrable sealed moisture barrier.

Moisture barrier enclosures

By encapsulating a basement with a barrier we address 3 main goals:

  • preventing moisture, gasses and insects from getting into the crawlspace
  • preventing undesirable moisture and contaminants from being distributed throughout the home environment
  • keeping the air inside the crawlspace dry

Solution:
Often non-encapsulated basements and crawlspaces require an effective solution to drain and control water penetration into the space, if required foundation cracks and seepage problems must be resolved. Once water drainage problems have been alleviated the installation of a special sealed vapor barrier on the floor and up the walls of dirt crawl space or basement will “encapsulate” the dirt area.

In some cases, even though outside moisture issues have been effectively eliminated, humidity, can result from condensation between the cool ground temperature and warmer air in the home and de-humidification devices may be required.
